Musicians of Musici Ireland

David O’Doherty-Violin- studied at the DIT Conservatory of Music, receiving  a B.Mus. Performance Degree in 1996. In 2000 he received a ‘Premier Prix de Virtuosite’ from the Conservatoire of Lausanne, Switzerland .At the Geneva Conservatory David graduated from the class of Gabor Takacs-Nagy in 2005 as leader of the Byron String Quartet. In 1997 David made his American debut live on the Boston Radio show "Morning pro Musica" and a year later made his soloist's debut with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. This was followed by recitals at the National Concert Hall, the Bank Ireland Arts Centre, New World Music Festival in Venezuela and in Switzerland with Pierre Amoyal. David is co-founder of the Paderewski Trio in Switzerland and of the Reflecting Strings Harp Trio in Ireland with whom he has released four cds. Now a lecturer at the D.I.T conservatory of music in Dublin, he shares his time between solo performances and giving chamber recitals throughout Europe.

 

Joanne Quigley-Violin- is in high demand as an orchestral leader and principal player and has appeared as guest leader of the BBC Scottish Symphony, The Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra. During 2011-2012 she was the acting leader of the RTE Concert Orchestra and held the position of Co-Leader of that orchestra from 2006-2008.

Joanne has toured extensively in Europe, Asia and the USA as a principal player with the

English Chamber Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic and Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique. She also performs regularly as Co-Leader with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the RTE National Symphony Orchestra.She plays frequently with the Irish Baroque Orchestra, The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and The Kings Consort. Joanne is also a key player with Ireland’s Contemporary Music group The Crash Ensemble and will be appearing with them at Carnegie Hall in May 2013. As a soloist, Joanne has performed with the RTE Concert Orchestra, The Northern Sinfonia, The Ulster Sinfonia, The Ulster Youth Orchestra, The Oriel Ensemble and The Banff Chamber Orchestra. She was Soloist and Director of a performance of Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.2 for the opening gala concert of the Banff Festival in 2004 which was recorded for CBC Radio. She also programmed and directed a concert series on six consecutive Sundays for The Banff Centre during that Festival.

Chamber Music plays an important role in Joanne’s career and she performs regularly with

her brother, pianist David Quigley. Together, they have given recitals throughout the UK

and Ireland to critical acclaim and have recorded for BBC and RTE Radio. Recent

highlights have included their New York debut at the American Irish Historical Society and

at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.



 

Catherine Humpherys-Violin- studied at the Cork School of Music , Trinity College of Music in London and holds a BSc. (Hons) in Clinical Speech and Language Studies from Trinity College, Dublin. In 2010 she graduated with honours from the MA in Classical String Performance in the University of Limerick. She has appeared as a soloist twice with Trinity College Orchestra and Dublin Orchestral Players, performing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with violist Niamh Roche. Catherine performs with RTE Concert Orchestra, Lyric Opera Orchestra and Wexford Opera Festival Orchestra, and works regularly as a freelance violinist throughout Ireland. She is a member of contemporary chamber group, SoundSet.

Paul O'Hanlon-Violin-studied as a scholarship student at the Academy in Dublin and the Royal Academy in London.More recently Paul received his Masters Degree in Violin performance from Limerick University . After finishing his studies in London Paul worked with many of the top Orchestras,  working and recording with artists such as Leonard Bernstein, Jessie Norman, Mistislav Rostropovich and Claudio Abbado. Paul was a member of the R.T.E. Concert Orchestra and played with the prestigious Irish Film Orchestra. He spent some years in France where he played chamber music with his string trio, the Dublin String Trio. He also played with local Orchestras and was Professor of violin studies in the music schools of Gignac and Pezenas. Returning frequently to France, Paul now spends the majority of his time in Ireland where he works frequently with the National Symphony Orchestra, the Wexford Opera Festival Orchestra and Camerata Ireland with Barry Douglas.

Robin Panter-Viola- was appointed Tutti Viola with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Glasgow in 2004. During his time with the BBCSSO, Robin was actively involved with the orchestras education outreach projects. In 2008 Robin was offered a sabatical from the BBC in order to join a team of musicians setting up "Sistema Scotland". This programme  is linked to Venezuela's 'El Sistema’. Robin works extensively with many Orchestras in the UK and Ireland including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Wales, Philharmonia, Scottish Ballet, Ulster Orchestra,Wexford Festival Opera(Principal Viola), RTE NSO, RTE CO, Scottish Ensemble, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra where he was recently on trial for a Co-principal position and is a regular Guest Principal.

Beth McNinch-Viola- has performed regularly with the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera, BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Symphony Orchestra of Wales. Beth has also worked and toured in Ireland and America with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra and Camerata Ireland with Barry Douglas. She is principal viola of the Wexford Festival Opera Orchestra and has appeared as guest principal Viola with English National Ballet and the RTE Symphony and Concert Orchestras. As a soloist, Beth has performed and recorded the Telemann Viola Concerto. She has also performed the Solo part in Vaughn Williams' Flos Campi for Orchestra, Choir and Viola. Beth is a prolific chamber musician, having played regularly in string quartets since the age of nine. She was a founder member of the Guillami quartet, formed in 1998, finalists in the Royal Overseas League chamber competition in 2002 and winners of the Bulldog Scholarship for string quartets from Trinity College. They have a recording of Shostakovich, Mozart and Walton and were resident quartet at the Ludlow Festival for four years. Beth is the founder and Artisic Director of Musici Ireland.

Grainne Hope-Cello- has travelled widely and played with many orchestras in America and Ireland including the Altoona Symphony, Erie Symphony, Soesterbeg Festival Orchestra, Camerata Ireland, RTE Concert Orchestra and the Orchestra of the National Concert Hall. Gráinne has been selected and is presently training as one of a team of three Irish musicians chosen to be part of a pioneering European programme with Music Network, Ireland, Musique et Sante, France, Turku University, Finland and the Royal Northern College of Music, UK in Training Trainers for Music in Healthcare Settings. Gráinne is currently freelancing with the RTE Concert Orchestra, Camerata Ireland and Wexford Opera Festival as well as tutoring the YOPS Orchestras and working on Dublin City South East Strings Project taking place in Deis Schools.

Joe Csibi-Double Bass- is a former member of The National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. Joe left in 1997 to spend 7 years with Riverdance the Show as bass guitarist, 3 of those years were spent as musical director. Joe has performed with the following artists: Principal Bassist - The Wexford Festival Opera Orchestra,(Current). The National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. Solo Bassist - Opera Theatre Company &Camerata Ireland. Bass Guitarist and Double Bassist -The Sugar Babes, Stephen Gately, Westlife, Haley,Westrena, Elmer Bernstien, Luka Bloom, Sinead O Connor, Pavorotti, Domingo, Carreras, Eddi Reader,Moya Brennan, Shaun Davy, David Essex, The Priests, Tommy Fleming, Paul Byrom, The Cheiftains &Sting, Katie Melua.He has performed on such film soundtracks as The Mask, The Age of Innocents, Remains of The Day & Ella Enchanted.

Vourneen Ryan- Flute- held the position of sub-principal flute with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra from 2004-2007 and now freelances regularly with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, RTE Concert Orchestra, RTE Symphony Orchestra,Northern Sinfonia, Opera Theatre Company and the Scottish Ballet. Vourneen has given many recitals at home and abroad including chamber music recitals with Merchant Winds quintet, Fusion wind quintet and the Oriel trio. She recently performed on the critically acclaimed Louth Contemporary Music Society’s CD’s “A Place Between” and “Path”.

Emmet Byrne-Oboe- graduated from The Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester in 2003, where he studied with Hugh McKenna of the Hallé Orchestra, and the well known English Oboist Melinda Maxwell. In 2004/2005 he studied with Prof. Christian Schneider at the Hochschule für Musik, Cologne, having been awarded a scholarship by the German Government. He has performed with many of the Uk's leading orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, The Philharmonia, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Opera North, Hallé Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Liverpool Philharmonic and Welsh National Opera. In Ireland he has performed with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Ireland, Wexford Opera and both RTÉ orchestras. Emmet has recently been appointed as second oboe in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Cormac Ó hAodáin-Horn- is currently Principal horn of the RTE Concert Orchestra, having previously held positions with both the Philharmonia and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. With these orchestras Cormac has toured extensively throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Russia, North and South America, the Near and Far East, Australia and New Zealand. In 2010 he performed Aloys Fleischmann's Cornucopia for Solo Horn and Orchestra with the RTÉ CO as part of the Fleischmann Centenary year celebrations and in 2012 performed Richard Strauss's 1st Horn Concerto with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra.

Conor Sheil-Clarinet- has performed a wide repertoire including works by Mozart  (concerto and sinfonia concertante), Françaix (concerto), Weber (both concertos and concertino) and Rossini (introduction, theme and variations) amongst  others.  As an orchestral musician Conor has been engaged by the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Irish Chamber Orchestra,the Wexford Opera Festival, the  Orchestra of St Cecilia and very many freelance groups. He has worked consistently in opera for Opera Theatre Company and for Lyric Opera Productions with both of whom he has enjoyed a long association.

John Hearne-bassoon- completed his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, and at the Scuola Musicale di Milano. Since returning to Dublin in 2001, John has worked as a freelance player with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the RTE Concert Orchestra, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Cecilia, Opera Theatre Company, the Castleward Opera orchestra and various other ensembles. He has performed and recorded with a number of artists including singer/songwriter Julie Feeney, featuring on her album "Pages". A keen chamber musician, John also teaches the bassoon at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama.

Fionnuala Moynihan-Piano- is widely accepted as one of Ireland’s leading pianists. She performed the Complete Piano Sonatas of Mozart in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin in 2010. Fionnuala has been awarded many prizes both at home and abroad including a Bank of Ireland Millenium Scholarship, the prestigious Maura Teissier Bursary and the Rena Menasche Award from the Tel-Hai Piano Masterclass series held in Israel. She was awarded the John Field Prize at the 2009 AXA Dublin International Piano Competition. Fionnuala has given solo recitals and concerto performances throughout England, Europe, Israel and the U.S.A as well as in Irish venues such as the John Field Room at the National Concert Hall, Áras an Uachtarán, Cork Opera House, Bantry House and the Crawford Art Gallery. She performed as a soloist with the R.T.E. Concert Orchestra at the National Concert Hall, Dublin as part of their Summer Lunchtime series, broadcast live on Lyric FM.

Dianne Marshall-Harp- won a music scholarship to Oakham School in Rutland, England where she studied for a number of years before being accepted into the London Royal Academy of Music, which she entered as a student under the tutorship of Professor Daphne Boden. Since returning to Ireland Dianne has worked as a freelance musician playing both Irish Harp and Concert Harp.  Dianne regularly works with the Ulster Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra and R.T.E. Concert Orchestra. As well as the three main professional Orchestras in Ireland Dianne has also worked with many other companies including the Wexford Opera festival and European Opera Company for a number of years.

Madeleine Shaw-Mezzo Soprano- studied at the RSAMD and the National Opera Studio supported by English National Opera. Madeleine was on the Young Singers Programme at English National Opera from 2006 to 2009.With ENO she has performed Annina Der Rosenkavalier, Beggar Woman Death in Venice, Second Lady The Magic Flute, Maddalena Rigoletto, Cavalleria Rusticana and in performances of songs by Kurt Weill and Samuel Barber at The Young Vic.  Madeleine made her Royal Opera House debut at Covent Garden in 2010 as Forester’s Wife/Owl The Cunning Little Vixen. Engagements in 2011/2012 include Verdi Requiem at Ely Cathedral, Messiah in Halifax, Annina Der Rosenkavalier for ENO and Siegrune Die Walküre for Opera North.  Subsequent engagements include Rossweise Die Walküre at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden.

Eamonn Mulhall-Tenor- studied Music and French Literature in Dublin before continuing his studies at the Royal College of Music and the National Opera Studio in London. Eamonn debuted at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in the world première of James MacMillan’s Clemency, directed by Katie Mitchell.  A frequent soloist in concert, Eamonn has sung with many of the country's eminent choral societies. Highlights include Puccini’s Messa di Gloria with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall and concerts with the Irish Baroque Orchestra.  His repertoire spans from Bach’sMatthäus-Passion, through Mendelssohn’s Elijah to Britten’s St. Nicholas.  A committed recitalist, Eamonn has given song recitals in Wexford; St Martin-in-the-Fields, London; Scotland and Belgium. He has broadcast live on BBC Radio3 and RTÉ Lyric fm.
